Join Katrina Frey of Frey Vineyards for a new release party at Tierra! The 2009 vintage showcases some of their best wines yet, including organic Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese, and Natural Rosé. Our current favorite is the 2009 Organic Chardonnay. This delicious wine comes from five Redwood Valley and Ukiah vineyards harvested in September 2009.

Complimentary hors d'oeuvres will be served with the tasting. Tierra - Art, Garden, Wine is located at 312 N. School St. in downtown Ukiah. Call 707-568-7936 for more details.

How we are trying to make this event "green":

    Frey Vineyards' Tradition of Sustainability...

    * Organic Grape Growing: All of the vineyards planted and cared for by the Frey family are under organic management, including the first vineyards planted in the 1960s.

    * Biodynamic Grape Growing: Biodynamic agriculture recognizes that the living soil is the heart of a farm. Without flourishing, vibrant, living soil, the ability to grow healthy plants and in turn raise healthy animals and humans is greatly diminished.

    * Biodynamic Farm: As the cows mow through the vineyard, they add nitrogen-laden compost to the soil. Back in the barnyard, these community members provide the manure needed for the homeopathic preparations of the biodynamic compost.

    * Organic Gardens: Blessed by several enthusiastic green thumbs, the Frey Ranch (as our estate is called) enjoys some ornamental gardens to feast the eyes upon as well as organic gardens to supplement feasts.

    * Honeybees: In response to the stresses and illnesses that are inflicting bees worldwide, we provide clean, well-ventilated homes for our colonies. We avoid the use of all chemicals, and always leave plenty of honey for the bees.

    * Carbon Footprint: At Frey Vineyards we understand the responsibility of passing along a healthy environment to future generations. That is why we have taken action to reduce and eventually eliminate our emissions of carbon dioxide.

    * Solar Powered: Sustainable ideals go beyond organic and biodynamic. It involves using fewer resources, especially energy. At Frey Vineyards we get half our energy from the sun.

    * Wildlife / Biodiversity: One of the basic tenants of biodynamic agriculture is to support biodiversity within the farm landscape. Hedgerows and forest are home for beneficial insects and birds, who help keep agricultural pests in a healthy balance.

    * Forest Protection: Our beautiful home ranch provides us with rich, healthy soil to grow our top quality grape vineyards – but that’s only 10% of the land under our care. The other 90% remains wild forestland, home to diverse species of native trees, shrubs, grasses and animals.

    * No GMO Mendocino: In 2004 the citizens of Mendocino County, California, passed the first US county ban on the propagation of genetically modified plants and animals.

    * Toxic-Free Vineyards: Twenty-nine years of organic grape growing and wine making by the Frey Organic Wine family has kept over 12 thousand pounds of toxic chemicals from being introduced into our soils and waterways.

    * Mendocino County – America's Greenest Wine Region: Mendocino County boasts the largest acreage of certified organic vineyards in the United States.

    * Organic, Biodynamic®, and the Future of Agriculture: Biodynamics® has been a major influence in natural farming over the last 85 years, but there is always more to learn as humankind moves towards an emerging New Natural Agriculture.
