Burning Man is an annual art event and temporary community based on radical self expression and self-reliance in the Black Rock Desert of Nevada. For a brief yet eloquent overview of the entire event from the time of arrival to the time of exodus, please read 'What is Burning Man?', an essay written by participant and one-time web team member, Molly Steenson See: www.burningman.com/whatisburningman/

How we are trying to make this event "green":
Burning Man is a Leave No Trace Event, and we seek not only to minimize our impact in the desert but also to understand our impact beyond its boundaries. The links on website (see above) will guide you through preparing for your Burning Man experience, and will introduce some groups who are dedicated to addressing environmental issues in Black Rock City and beyond.
The Burning Man community is committed to creating a Black Rock City that makes the smallest environmental impact possible. Additionally, we are committed to take what we have learned Leaving No Trace on the playa and to extend that principle into the real world in our daily lives.
Burning Man's Board has adopted an official Environmental Statement, to which the Burning Man Project is committed. See on linked website above.
